Censored ?

Just wondering if the ending of "The Doodle" is censored in the U.S as appears to happen in Australia ? We no longer see Uncle Leo saying to Elaine "I thought they said they were sending a chinese woman", when she comes to survey the damage Jerry's family caused to the hotel room. All we see now is Elaine appear and some very dis-jointed laughter. I wonder if it's because of the prostitute inferance or a racial thing ?

Saw the episode not too long ago and that scene was NOT censored.

Well last night i saw the episode where elaine tests positive for opium and Peterman won't let her go to Kenya with him. I'm sure when Peterman describes his own opium experiences one of his euphemisms for it is "chinamans nightcap" but he didn't say that in last nights episode. Am I remembering that correctly ?

I wonder the hows, whos, whys, and whens regarding this censorship. Today, I am watching on TBS and it is the one where Puddy tells Elaine that she is going to Hell and they cut out the part where Elaine says, "And the heat. My God, the heat". What is up with that? They leave in far "worse". I saw the same episode on FOX two weeks ago and the line remained intact.

Oy!

I think some of the censorship is a bit odd. A couple of years back in Australia the network that plays Seinfeld promoted Black Label Seinfeld which screened at a later timeslot. The episodes included The Gymnast and The Abstinence, I guess cos they contained more sexually explicit storylines but I agree that there were inconsistencies with the censoring. Does anyone from Oz remember that? I think it was 1998 or 1999.

yep i remember the black label. i guess they were trying to inject a bit of spice into it.
anyhoo, the reason that peterman didn't say "chinaman's nightcap" was 'cause it was "the bookstore" where he says it but apparently not anymore. seems there were complaints in the u.s. and nbc agreed to edit it out in '98. i haven't seen that episode in a while so i don't know if the australian version still has it in.

Nope the "Bookstore" was on TBS the other night and it was only "White Palace" NOT "Chinaman's Nightcap". If you catch it on FOX, it will all be there. TBS musta "Turnerized" 'em.

i'm just happy i live in England.
No editing for content or commercials we get the monolouges an all.
Just the other night on BBC2(free terestrial TV) i was watching Curb Your Entusiasm and it was the one where Larry's playing cards with Julia louis-Dreyfus(pronounced Lou-e) and he called the gay guy playing with them a CU*T "oh you CUN*"
and that was in there.
'hail the BBC' (abolish the lisence fee though)

They also cut out part of the conversation between Jerry and Joel Hornick in Male Unbonding Read the script of Male Unbonding Download the full epiosde video of Male Unbonding Discuss Male Unbonding where Jerry talks about going to a terrorist convention in Iran in order to try and get Hornick's attention.

When an episode is syndicated they usually cut at least 30 seconds from it, usually 5 seconds here, 2 seconds there etc. Often times theyll just cut the beginning or closing stand up routine, but in the later episodes there was no stand up so they had to cut from the episode itself. I have a few episode copys from both NBC and UPN or TBS or something and the NBC one is always 30 seconds longer, often its hard to find where that 30 seconds went, but its always somewhere. I suspect that some of the "censorship" your talking about is actually just time cutting, especially in things like "my god the heat", things that have no reason being censored. My UPN version of The Burning still has that line in it though, so who knows.
