I don't know if this has been brought up in a full discussion, but I'm really dissapointed with the whole DVD packaging. I know this has nothing to do with the show, and I'm happy enough to have the DVDs available, but they coulda done a lot better with the packaging.
First, I don't like how you have to open 3 different things to get to a DVD. It's impossible to tell (within a set) which disc is which, so you have to pull them out one at a time until you find the right one. I think they should have done a tetra-fold (that's 'four' folds), which I've seen in other shows. For us OCDs that would have been a lot better.
Secondly, the gift set (seasons 1 and 2), IMO, was pointless. The whole salt/pepper thing was cheaply made and ended up in the trash soon after. And what was the point in the seinfeld playing cards? The script was kinda cool, though.
Finally, and most importantly, I HATE the graphics within the packaging. All the pictures on all the covers and DVDs are, I think, way too cheesy, and display something completely opposite of what I think Seinfeld is all about. It looks like something they could have used for 'Friends' (and I'm sure their fans would have loved it).
Alright, I've been meaning to rant about this for a while. Oh well, thank god for the contents.

The DVDs look okay to Jimmy, but yes, they could've been much nicer overall.. The only thing Jimmy doesn't care for, are the 'amateurish-looking' square photos on the outside boxes (like someone, who also does their local church newsletter, did it in MS Word or something). The inside boxes look much better with the photos extended all the way to edge... The DVD cases, themselves, are kinda cool looking with each characters big mug filling them out. Seem to remember 'Cheers' having a really nice packaging if Jimmy's not mistaken.

The cards, S&P shakers are cool. The script.......blaaaahhh, never even looked at it... who cares?

I like the individual cases for each cd. I do have the same problem you do with them not marking the side of each case. What I do is keep them out of the box and lined up with the rest of my dvds on a shelf and it'd be nice if it was labled "season 1/disc1, season1 1/disc 2" etc on the side instead having them all just say "Seinfeld" and having to count down from the left to find the particular case I'm looking for. It's not practical.

As far as the whole look, I definitely agree with the lameness of the covers. I think it would have been far cooler if they would have put a scene that pertained to the specific season on the front. Either a great memorable scene or just one with all 4 of them together. I don't have as much of a problem with their supersized faces on each individual case cover, mainly just the front box cover.

Actually my packaging is tetra-fold. "It's European!"
I never realized there was a difference, between the regions, but I consider myself lucky, as the packaging you describe sounds horrible.
Non the less, I too have to go through two packagings to get ot the tetra-fold itself Smile

i don't know what any of you are talking about, with not being able to find the right disk. Its separated by season, just keep them in order, 1 on top, 2 underneath and so forth. Its not that hard.

They're talking about the individual disc "cases" within the season 1-3 boxes. They weren't labled on the edge as season four's were. if you have them on a shelf, you have to pull them out to see who's face is on it to know which disc it is. Jimmy agrees that it's not a big deal, but there really was no reason to not label them either.

i understand your talking about the individual cases, i keep everything in the box, and when i take them out i go through the box. but heres a suggestion you could take out the paper insert and put your own label. (like something off the computer take it look nice.) you don't even have to tape it in or anything just fold it up with it inside. but thats just a suggestion.
