I agree. The first time I saw these designs they looked like something I could have thrown together myself with Photoshop in about fifteen minutes -- not hard to do since the logo and photos are all stock material. A bit disappointing...
I imagine they wanted an appealing image that conveys the essence of the show while at the same time giving equal exposure to all four of the stars. But they could keep everyone happy with images from the show which highlight different major characters on different season boxes. Or use an image from the show with photos of the characters creatively superimposed over it. In any case, they could have done a better job on the overall designs. "Frasier" and "Cheers" use the same promo-photo concept but IMO they're more creatively designed.
