I think the finale could possibly have been done better, but given the magnitude of Seinfeld's popularity i don't think an ending to satisfy everyone would be possible...some of those above have mentioned possible romantic endings whereby jerry and elaine are married etc, which i agree would've been nice to a degree, but ultimately would've undermined the entire premise of the show and weakened it in the long run; i think that although the character's sometimes briefly dabble in selfless acts, the idea is that they basically are completely self absorbed, representing the epitome of shallow, materialistic 20th century society. I admire the creators for not having succumbed to pressure to pursue a "happy" ending...the final gaol scene, whereby the button issue of the pilot is discussed, represents the lack of change within all the characters, and their almost absurd self centredness that is the key to the show's hilarity
