A great movie, btw.

During the closing credits, Al asked me to encourage all my friends to see this movie. Since my friends won't speak to me anymore, I'm asking you instead.

(My friends think I'm arrogant and pompous. I told them they don't know what they're talking about, as usual. I said, Go read a dictionary and don't come back till you can enagage in intelligent converasation. Yeah, they're whakos.)

Seriously, though... I can't wait to see that movie. I've seen Al pimping it on all the talk shows... anything that proves conservatives wrong is on my list. Put me down.. I'm down!

(I just realized... why am I all excited about a film that proves the planet is going to shit, anyway?)

The book-on-tape won't have the visual aids. And you'll miss the death blow at the end.

Alright, then I'll wait for the bootleg, provided it is done with sensibility, but I doubt those visuals aids will be worth the extra effort. Once you've seen one of these Reifenstahl efforts, from either side, you seen em all.

Shut your traps this instant! I'm trying to watch the movie! And if I have to tell you again, we're gonna take it outside and I'm gonna show you what it's like! You understand me? Now, shut your mouths or I'll shut'em for ya, and if you think I'm kidding, just try me. Try me. Because I would LOVE it!

I think Riefenstahl's counterpart is Spielberg or maybe Woody Allen. Al Gore's counterpart is George W Bush. Can anybody imagine that doofus leading an intelligent, coherent, scholarly discussion on global warming? On economics? On any topic?

He's...uhhh.....uhhhh....... fighting the .....uhhh........the war on........ on a...... on tear. yeah.... the war on tear....... "heh heh"

See, you want to hit "heh heh" more... Laughing

Have you actually seen it Jackie? The point of the movie is that global warming is real and that we need to something about it sooner rather than later. You got a problem with that?

Yes, I've seen it and yes I've got problems with it. Saying that it is merely about global warming is really missing my point, and you know it, Bookman. And, before you mark me a right-winger (which I'm not by any stretch) stop in your tracks - you don't really know me and I've actually gone to fair pains not to interject my personal political views onto others here on this site (unlike most of the rest of you). You got a problem with THAT?

Plus, Reifenstahl's counter part is Spielberg or Woody Allen? Hopefully you were also in jest or there is really is no point in discussing this at all - at least not intelligently.

Your hate for George Bush (whom I also disagree with on nearly every issue) and seemingly anything to the right of Lenin has blinded you to the extent that you cannot be taken seriously in these matters. Global warming notwithstanding.

And, before you start a lengthy rebuttal, please save your effort. I will not engage further or in the future in a debate of political issues, strategies, or agendas (hidden or otherwise) on THIS site. I will only say that the latest majority of such discussion of these topic on this site get very little response for two reasons:
1) They just ain’t many frequenting this site and,
2) Most all of the initial material is so pathetically skewed to the absolute extreme that no response is really possibly, especially when one is raked over the proverbial coals for simply no accepting that anyone in the current cabinet is not a raving axe murderer. So, those few that are here are not raise their heads above ground level. Of course, I LOVE a good scrap, but not on those terms.
You know, sometimes I expect to log on here and find a Weathermen reunion (do the research).
Now, I will discuss Seinfeld until Newman’s cow comes home, but I will have the good sense to stick to me gut feeling and stay out of these discussions on this site.

I'll discuss the global warming issue. The reason it's taking so long for the government to act on this (and just for the record, I knew this long before Gore hit the talkshow circuit)is because of the status quo.

Not to get too cynical, but most of the folk in the white house have a lot riding on the oil and coal energy supplies (as michael moore so viciously pointed out) So it's easy to see why nuclear power, hybrid cars, etc.. have taken so long to establish themselves. There is all this anxiety over nuclear power, they forget that it creates a shitload less amount of waste (of course whatever waste is created happens to be radioactive) Meanwhile GM and Ford are just kicking themselves now that the consumer has finally had enough paying an arm and a leg for fuel.

But hey, money above all runs the world. And if companies like Toyota are any indication. Hybrids are here to stay. So that part of the problem is being solved.

As for the rest of the sources of pollution, one word : Kyoto. GET ON BOARD, LOSERS!!!!!!

As for the Bush administration, they've shown their colors. And there's almost nothing said about the leading lights--Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice--that any of them would deny.

And just for the record, Jackie....

1. Comparing "An Inconvenient Truth" to anything from Leni Riefenstahl is asinine, and unlike my retort, I know you weren't kidding. You sound more like a Fox News reporter than somebody who actually saw this movie.

2. Suggesting I hate everybody to the right of Lenin, and hence that I'm a borderline Communist, makes you the very thing you accuse me of--being a knee jerk. I think you're a lot more right-wing than you claim. I like John McCain, David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld, Sandy Koufax. The list of people to Lenin's right I don't hate is almost as long as the ones I do hate for reasons having nothing to do with politics. And I would like John McCain as much as I ever did if he'd take his head out of Bush's rear end and put it back into the air the rest of us breathe. And I don't hate you. Yet.

You think wrong, Bookman, as strange as we probably all know that seems to you personally. Wrong about me, and wrong about what you claim to "know" about me and what I think and mean. That is a fact. "Unlike me (you) I know YOU (me) weren't kidding?" Please. More like the other way around. And wrong about many other things. That is my opinion. You have no clue about where I stand to the left right or midlle of anything because I choose not to use a silly sitcom forum to discuss matters of any real importance. Your leanings on quite a number of matters are a matter of record here. In the archives, as they say. There are mendacities and duplicitous folks (MANY) on both sides of the spectrum. Holier than thous, like you, are just as hard to stomach on one side as the other. And, before you point your right finger at me again, I first voted for Carter for President and have never voted Republican (though I have NOT voted twice). Farther right than I claim? Right-wing. My friends would flat out call you an idiot. And they'd be correct.

Finally, if your "yet" comes to pass, I could not care less.

And, all that said, and though possibly hard to understand, I harbor no long lasting hard feelings because I, for one, do not hate. Should anyone else choose to do so, that is on them.
