I was reading the 'seinfaq' on It said when Jerry said about Banja "...he is a time slot hit..." he is also talking about NBC placing crap shows after seinfeld. According to the season 4 dvd, what saved Seinfeld was being placed behind Cheers in the fourth season. That is when people finally watching Seinfeld and getting them good ratings.

Well, if you were able to think past your nose, you'd realise that Banya was still a less than mediocre comedian regardless...Seinfeld was a great show, which is why it DIDN'T bomb once it was in that slot, and actually became way more popular than Cheers.
