Howard Stern coined a great phrase this morning.

Now mind you, Jimmy has never, ever, ever in his entire life, watched even one minute of any reality show, and never will.

But Howard was talking about a guy on American Idol named Bo whom everyone has supposedly been raving about lately. He said any guy who likes him is a "Bomo."

The Seinfeld influence lives on. Go Howard! Laughing

I don't understand the appeal of reality TV generally, and American Idol in particular. I can go to Max's Opera Cafe, eat a piece of apple pie, and listen to waiters and waitresses sing a hundred times better than anything you're gonna hear on that show.

As Triumph the Insult Comic Dog would say: I like American Idol......... to poop on!

I LOVE American Idol....nothing wrong with hearing someone talented sing.
And, IMO, Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood are two of the best singers they've ever had on the show.

And, the "bad" auditions can be quite entertaining. Please....If you've never seen the show, don't judge it. Wink

Well, I never have any problem whatsoever with a Triumph reference. He SINGS better than Bo Bice or Carrie Underwood, too!

I was watching that show for a few minutes last night with my wife, and my only comment was that the backup singers are probably ready to shoot either of these two - what with them struggling just to get the backup gig and probably able to sing the hair out of that fool Bo's head. Jackie's hair was once longe then Bo's.... IN NINETEEN-SEVENTY-FIVE, for chriss sake!!

Excuse me...In the 15 years I played in clubs, I saw 1000 "cover" singers with as much, and more talent, than these glorified Karaoke singers. Our society is embarrassing when they make stars out of people that are a dime a dozen and don't wirte a note of their own music.
I think it's disgusting that there are bands out there busting their asses, WRITING THEIR OWN MUSIC, playing in shitty little clubs, sleeping in pig stye hotel rooms, and we will never hear of them. Meanwhile a bunch of half-talented Karaoke singers who don't have an original bone in their body get packaged, promoted and shoved down the public's throats as "real" entertainers just because they can sing SOMEONE ELSE'S song, just like a million other Karaoke singers can.
And some of them sing with that high squealing sound that can drive you INSANE!!!

A media critic on the Today Show this morning said American Idol was like the McDonald's drive-through of the music business: I'll take a career and a Coke!

Like I said, IMO. That means In MY Opinion. You guys can have yours too but please don't jump all over mine. I didn't say anything when a "homo" reference was used. I prefer a real band, with original songs. But, I can listen to anyone who has a good voice, no matter what they sing.

Thank you and have a nice day. Very Happy

Nobody jumped on your opinion, Queen...some of us just disagree...
You see what we're doing is ne-go-ti-at-ing. You think Ted Danson sings other people's songs?

Yeah, you said IYO, Queen. I see lots of other opinions, too, but nowhere do I see anyone "jumping" on yours - any more than you saying how you "LOVE" the show was jumping on the prior posts of Jimmy and Bookman. Just because you are in the singular minority in the opinions here is no reason to be so sensitive.

LOL....that's true. But, I'm not Ted Danson.

I'm sorry. I can't live knowing Ted Danson makes that much more than me. Who is he?

How many times can you fit the word "dog" in a sentence? Ask Randy. That guy can fit "dog" into any speech.

ex: "Yo, Dog, it's really a pleasure to meet you, your majesty."

Bo Bice?....It sounds made up. Although his career will shoot up by singing other people's music, I heard he does have a band and i think they were signed.

Speaking of Idol, how hilarious was that guy who accused Paula of getting down and dirty? He sounds like Tyson and Michael Jackson all in one. I was watching Dateline or 20/20 where they did a story on him. His song is so terrible and cheesy. I'll come back with lyrics if i can find them.

I know i'm all over the place with this post, so forgive me.

I already gave up. But take my word for it, i remember them being really funny, but of course they weren't intended to be. And that's usually the best kind of funny. The unintended funny.

Jeffrey's right about "unintentional" funny. People who think they're funny are never as funny as people who don't know they're funny, and who thus take themselves way too seriously. I've seen a few episodes of Idol (American, not Billy), and it does give me a certain degree of pleasure watching a big group of zeros f*ck up all over my television. It's not a good show; it's just a show that's entertaining in all the ways it wasn't intended to be.

Thank you for agreeing, but i have to point out that more than half of those zeros know exactly what they're doing and are just trying to get on TV. By unintentionally funny, i mean when immigrants get angry. Have you ever seen an Indian lose his temper? It's quite a show.

It IS a chick show. The Bomo (homo) label is priceless.

As for the singing. Well, Jimmy has heard enough of the commercials and promos from the show to know how these people sing without wathcing it. So yes, Jimmy can judge it. Personally, they sound no better than the Star Search, overdramatic, over-emotional, too-much-vibrato-on-every-single-note, run-of-the-mills. The obnoxious new R&B style of fluttering up and down between 4 to 6 notes on every syllable is nothing short of pure hell to endure these days. These people use 20 notes just to sing the first five words of the National Anthem...

Oh-OH-o-oh-OH Say-a-A-aay Can-A-a-A-an You-oo-OO See-ee-EE-ee...) This is what murderers should be punished with... not cushy prison.

Yes, they can sing. Yes they have control... so what? It sucks to listen to. PICK A NOTE already.

Like Gendison said, There are millions of great vocalists out there who are FAR better.

I'm sure the worst of the wannabees on American Idol are entertaining, in a perverse way. What's the word for people who take pleasure in the misery of others? Schadenfreude, or something like that? Rather than cast pearls before swine, I'd pick-up a Glamour magazine and lose a bet.
