Is it just me (and before you say i'm nuts, check it out first), but i'd say that 90% of the time on the show, when Jerry picks up the phone, i didn't hear it ring. And when i rewind to make sure it wasn't just me, i find that it either didn't make a sound, or rang very very low. Anyone notice this, or is it because i've lost all the treble reponse in my ears???

Well a lot of times he picks it up really quickly, but usually I hear it.

Maybe u should go to an ear doctor or something

Another phone related thing that I notice every single time is that everyone always knows every phone number by memory, regardless of who it is they're calling. For some reason that always gets my attention.

Well I'm almost positive that I've heard the phone ring at least once before some character picked it up. It would be pretty odd for someone to just randomly pick up a phone and start talking wouldn't it? Maybe you can't hear it over the laugh track or something...

I notice every single time is that everyone always knows every phone number by memory

I can't recall a particular instance when this would seem strange. I mean, Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer would obviously know each other's numbers from memory. It's also understandable to have their current girlfriends numbers in memory. I can't think of who else they ever call that they shouldn't know their number..

If I listed it here, it wouldn't end. Just a few examples: Joe Devola, Alec Berg, chinese delivery, Jerry calls Kramer's mom, etc.

I'm glad you can think of "At least one time" when you heard the phone ringing

Maybe I didn't post this as clearly as I thought. I didn't mean that I can recall at least one episode, I meant that for every single time a character has picked up the phone, I'm sure I've heard the phone actually ring at least once(as opposed to multiple or no rings)

Yeah, there are a couple of good examples there. Now that I read it, I remember thinking to myself when Jerry calls Kramer's mom, that it was odd for him to know the number. Although we know that Kramer knows Jerry's parents number since he calls them every week lol.

You may be interested in the episode The Money.
kramer:"Yeah, Balley's, Jerry Seinfelds room please"
morty:"You know the number?"
kramer:"I used to have a problem"

That explains one of the times I guess, don't know about the others.

I agree with rio about how they seem to know everyone's phone number off hand. It's not that they just know each other's phone numbers, but they dial people they've just met's phone numbers off hand a lot. I can't think of a specific example right now, but it has always gotten my atttention too.

i have never seen the phone get answered without hearing it ring ......
maybe they dont have to look up the phone number to call anyone because its a 22 minute show and they just dont have the extra few seconds to spare - looking up a number is not only time consuming but not very funny.........

Hey, it always rings in the scripts!

Laughing

but seriously (yeah, like this is serious), since the scripts are not true scripts but interpretation by some dedicated fans, then I guess you'd have to say that at least *they* heard the phone ring...

haha! that's what I'm saying!

i know that it's a tv show and it would be stupid for them to look up numbers everytime.... it's just funny the way they do it, thats all.

I listened to that part, and I think you must be going deaf, because there is no doubt that the phone clearly rings. (I havn't got his exact ring tone tattooed in my brain, but that is a phone ringing)

Funny that a few people have said they ALWAYS hear the phone ringing. I'm amazed they had the time to go back and check out all 180 episodes before responding.

Would you rather have had people watching every single episode to see if they hear the phone before they had replied to your post?? Other than your most recent post (which doesn't count since the phone does ring anyways), you havn't yet found an instance when the phone does not ring. Maybe you should have watched every single episode before you posted and then told us which ones the phone doesn't ring in.

Anyways, I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, and I'm not saying that there isn't an episode in which the phone doesn't ring in, it's just that I can't remember any. And if it is me who does eventually find the episode which it doesn't ring, I'll happily post it for you to see.

I don't recall the phone not ringing when it is answered so I'm saying "I've always heard the phone ring before it is answered". Razz As Mr Berg stated, no one has come up with an instance when it doesn't ring but there very well could be.

I don't see how the phone couldn't ring. That's not something I think they would forget to include after having done so many times before.

This is sorta off topic, but does anyone know how Leo got the ringing in his ears?

In The Pledge dirve when Elaine answers the phone it definitely rings first - earlier in that episode jerry answers the phone call from uncle leo and the phone rings then also - before that mr. pitt answers the phone call from jerry and it also rings then - jerrys nana also answers the phone call from chemical bank - guess what ?! - it rings then also!!!!!!!!!!!

my theory is Gendison has some problem in his inner ear that causes him not to hear a phone ringing -

Gendison :
Do you also go into convulsions when you hear Mary Hart's voice?
Have you noticed also that nobody has ever called you on your home phone - maybe they do but you just never hear it -
I agree with Mr. Berg - go and watch all 180 episodes and then post the ones where the phone doesn't ring - but make sure you have someone in the room with you to verify they didnt hear it - If you don't find one then maybe a trip to the Ear Doctor isn't such a bad idea.......

Hehe...this is really getting to you guys isn't it??? hilarious. No, I went back and listened a few times to the example above and a few others, and while i do hear it ring, it's definitely waaaayyyy lower than most phones on most shows.
Besides, like i said in my first post, it probably is my hearing...though it seems to be bothering you guys a lot more than it can ever possibly bother me...hahaha
There's no reason for me to check out every episode if i know i noticed that the phone is very low a lot of times, but for someone to say they ALWAYS hear the phone ring without being sure means THEY should go back and check out every episode. At least Kramer did some research and went back and listened before posting...good boy Kramer, must be those dog pills, they improve your hearing too. I know my hearing's not 100%, so you guys might be right, stop crying....please...hahaha
Get it over it guys, i didn't think it would ruin your day...hahahaha Shocked Very Happy

Bean,

Uncle leo's ringing in his ears started in the episode 'The Package', i think his oven exploded or something. He was opening Jerry's package over the phone and George and Jerry thought It might have been a bomb.
