I met Jerry recently outside a venue he had just played. He gave me an autograph but had nothing to say to me during the brief smalltalk I tried to make. (I was the only one standing there - so its not like there was a crowd or anything). I have noticed that he tells his last joke and is gone from the venue within like 30 seconds without talking to a single person. Is he an arrogant jerk? has anyone else had the same experience? would like to hear about it.

Gimme a break. How do you know what was going on in his head, or what kind of day he had. Or maybe you were the 300th person that day who wanted to start a conversation with him. Why do people think stars owe them anything more than what they do to entertain us? He's not a jerk just because he didn't seem to be enthralled in talking to a stranger he owes nothing to.

He doesn't owe you or anyone else a piece of his PRIVATE life. Sure, the tabloids and reporters will go get a pieces of his private life, that comes with the territory of being famous. But he DOES NOT owe anyone anything more than what he does. If he doesn't want to have a conversation with some guy at the end of his show, that's totally his perogative. Get a life people...these performers are people like you and me, they all go to the bathroom and smeel if they don't shower. What's with the hero worship. Respect what he does as an artist, but he doesn't have to say shit to you besides that.

i love the notion that celebrities "owe it to their fans."

somehow, people don't realize it's give and take.

simple equation really...

we give jerry money, jerry entertains us. relationship ends there.

put another way... would you be mad at your plumber for not hanging around and talking to you after he fixes your toilet?

Well aren't you something?

I just said the same thing...but you were more concise. You're like USA Today.

I, on the other hand, was just trying to be folksy...totally folksy...i thought it was folksy.

I agree with one point - he didn't OWE me a conversation etc, however, he could have at least been polite and courteous, that is not asking too much from anybody. (and what would his parents have thought if they had witnessed how he behaved? not a good reflection on his upbringing that is for sure!) I met BB King at the same venue and he chatted with me and about 50 other people one on one after the concert - he is the King of the Blues - and Jerry is the King of Stand-up; so why the difference in fan interaction behaviour? Could it be that that Jerry is a jerk... will let you decide. (and a PS to the story - I saw Jerry here LAST year - didn't even pay to see him this go round - but... was the ONLY one in town to get his autograph in TWO years - so - the joke is on Jerry!)

BB King?

How could BB King NOT talk to people when he's so close to the end? When he knows that any second... Poof! Bamm-O... It can all be over! He's not stupid. He can read the handwriting on the wall. It's a matter of simple arithmetic, for Gods sake...

Hey, hey, hey, hey Jimmy--forget BB King. That Sergio Mendes can't even go to the bathroom in South America.

Forget about the small-talk with Jerry. Seinfeld is naturally an introvert and does not like chatting with anyone he does not specifically know. Certainly since he conned his wife away from that poor guy who had just gotten married to her, I bet he thinks fans look at him as some type of home-wrecker.
