J. Peterman exists!?

I'm a Seinfeld fan from Brazil and I just finished watching several episodes after my interest in Nothing was reborn since I bought the DVD set.

The last episode I watched a few minutes ago was the Understudy, which I barely remembered, I was surprised to rediscover that this is the first J. Peterman episode. That got me thinking: where the heck did they come up with that nutcase?

Upon googling around I discovered that there exists a J. Peterman company that sells fancy stupid clothes! To Americans, that may be obvious, but I thought Mr Peterman was fictitious.

What is the link between the J Peterman Company and its Seinfeld counterpart? Was there a legal problem between the company and the show? How famous is the Peterman catalogue?

So much of Seinfeld was based on true experiences and things, I'm not that surprised. What I am surprised about is the dumb quotes on that site! I thought that only the Seinfeld Peterman published that dorky stuff.

"“The man climbing the ladder to thatch the roof of that sensational thick-walled cottage in Dorset isn’t merely wearing corduroy pants, but extra-wide-wale corduroy pants.”"

One of the things makes Seinfeld great is that allot of stuff is based in real situations and products either from Larry David himself or from the writers, I read somewhere a few days ago that Festivus was based in a real fake holiday invented by the father of one of the writers and it was even more bizarre than the one on the show Shocked

They got some pretty cool shit though. I'm thinking of ordering the 1932 Olympic Shirt.

I know about GendAson. I didn't bother looking at the script first, and any time anyone has ever mentioned it, it's after they read it. I did mention this months ago when i finally discovered it. I guess I should be shunned by society...Where's your spelling?...GET OUT!!!

GET OUT!!!!!!!
isn't he the voice for Coor's light? somehow i doubt that he's the head of a major clothing company and still finds time to do beer commercials.
