Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., Trial Lawyer Defined by O.J. Simpson Case, Is Dead at 67
By ADAM LIPTAK

Published: March 30, 2005

Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., whose fierce, flamboyant and electrifyingly effective advocacy in the O. J. Simpson murder trial captivated the country and solidified his image as a master of high-profile criminal defense, died yesterday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 67.

The cause was a brain tumor, said a law partner, Peter J. Neufeld.

Mr. Cochran was already a prominent Los Angeles lawyer in 1994, when Mr. Simpson, the former football star, asked him to join and then lead the lawyers defending him on charges that he had killed his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and a friend of hers, Ronald L. Goldman.

from CNN.com:

Cochran's flamboyancy inspired parodies -- among them the Jackie Chiles character on "Seinfeld," who unsuccessfully defended the show's gang in the series finale, and sketches on "Saturday Night Live."

"At times, it was a lot of fun," Cochran wrote of the "Seinfeld" spoof. "And I knew that accepting it good-naturedly, even participating in it, helped soothe some of the angry feelings from the Simpson case."

Did I tell you to embalm?
The who?
The mortuary?!
I did not wish to be embalmed!
That is outrageous, capricious, facecious!

OK, long time no hear, good to see 'ya, how 'ya been, and all that...crap.

Immediately thought of this site after having learned the passing of Johnnie. We were similar, but distinctly different. His major success as a lawyer is considered by many as a public embarrassment, while many of my efforts as viewed similarly were, of course, abject failures. My only wish is that he would have been as equally incompetent in his practice. Of course, he wouldn’t have let OJ listen to his damn caddy, either.

On the other hand, OJ's caddy continues to assist in hunting for the real killers around the greens and bunkers of Florida. So there you go!

You don't understand. He made the last contact between us. We had the upper hand in the post-breakup relationship. If he thinks that we're saying hi, then we lose the upper hand.

Yes but posting just to say we didn't say hi is as much of a gesture as saying hi. Personally, I didn't think anyone ever said hi. When did they say hi? I didn't read anyone saying hi. I thought we just gave him our regards.

You ever notice whenever someone makes it big in the news, Bush pulls something to get the attention back on himself? You watch. As soon as The Pope passes, that freak will pull some big shit! Guaranteed! Evil or Very Mad

Yeah, like sticking his dirty nose in the Schiavo case because that's where the cameras were (and has the nerve to keep a straight face while talking about how precious life is....votes, votes, votes)

...meanwhile someone blows away 9 people and himself in some little "Injun Village" where he doesn't really care about their vote and hardly a mention. Freaking war-criminal scum-bag hypocrite.
