Anyone know the inspiration behind J.Peterman? Was the character just a combination of the writing and O'Hurley's spin? He had some fantastically classic lines..

There is a real J. Perterman of J. Peterman catalog fame. However, from all I've seen, there is no connection or similarity, whatsoever, between the person who IS J. Peterman and the character J. Peterman, as played by O'Hurley.

A dull, drab piece of driftwood that has no purpose, was the inspiration for the tiresome, lifeless, monotonous, nonsensicle, do nothing, say nothing, insignificant, pest of a character.

Worst character in the history of television... next to Mork.

I just looked at the J.Peterman website. They have Gatsby pants. I am influenced by the things I see so I had no choice but to buy them. Now I can be like the Gatsby's by myself in the comfort of my own home. Size 32/34 Color, original cream, yarn-dyed for richness. Price: $128. God bless you J.Peterman.

everybody has some character they cannot stand. Jimmy's happens to be J. Peterman.

Personally, I like J. Peterman, but I do have a problem with the Seinfelds (except Jerry of course, duh.)

How can anyone not like Helen?

I can see that.

I all seriousness, however, the delivery and timing of both Morty and Helen are nothing short of superlative, IM(H)O, and provide absolutely top-flight comedy.
