I just stopped by to thank you. That risk management stuff you wrote
for me? It's killer!
Aw, it's gold, Jerry! Gold! I got all these corporate gigs and even
Cynthia took me back.

I just met the actor today (2/6/04) having lunch at Rock Bottom in San Diego. Very cool guy. I told him Banya is my favorite character. He thanked me, shook my hand, and introduced himself as "Steve." |

bania: I am looking for a new suit. I can’t find anything I like. That's a nice suit!
(...)
Bania: hey that's the women's dressing room.
kramer: There's nothing in there that I haven't seen before...

Jerry: Yeah, actually I did. I put it on last night and slept in it.
Kenny: You did?!?
Jerry: No, I'm only joking!

I could swear that the Kenny Banya character was based on Joe Piscopo. My clues? There's the weightlifting thing, the fact the he's an unfunny comedian, and a slight physical resemblence. Does anyone know if Kenny Banya was based on anyone Seinfeld knew? |

I just had lunch yesterday with the "real" Kenny Bania. He is my Fathers Cousin, and he was here visiting from Queenstown, NZ.
He was best friends with Larry David in high school, in Brooklyn. He told me that in 1990 he went to the 25th year school reunion with Larry David, and their other friend "The Drake". During their reunion, a broke and unknown Larry told Kenny that he had signed a deal with NBC to do a pilot with a guy named Jerry Seinfeld, which he was sure was going to fail. Kenny asked him what the show was about, and Larry described it as a show about nothing.
My Father's Cousin, Kenny Bania, told me that since that trip to their high school reunion, he has only spoken to Larry 2 or 3 times.
So there you go, the real Kenny Bania. I should also tell you that he is NOTHING like the character on the show - the name was an homage to Larry's boyhood friend, and nothing more.
I don't know "The Drake" personally, so I don't know if everyone "loves" him. Next time I see my Cousin when he visits in August, I'll ask him about "The Drake." |
