"Mean People Suck" bumper stickers.
Have you seen these things? More importantly, do the people who display these bumper stickers on their vehicles even realize what they actually mean?
"Mean People Suck" TRANSLATION:
"People who are constantly honking at me, flipping me off, screaming obscenities at me, getting out of their cars to try and pull me out of my car to beat me to death with a shovel because I can't drive worth a shit, and are sick and tired of of dealing with people like me everyday, suck!!"
Well, admittedly, that would be a bit long to fit across a bumper, so I can certainly understand why they shortened it down to just a few words. But still, it is very misleading. What these stickers are really saying is "I Can't Drive," which is even shorter yet, so perhaps they can change it one day.
When you hear about, or read about, a road rage incident, ask yourself..."What is the real story behind the story?" Don't be so quick to judge, or necessarily take the news anchor's side, who's always shaking his or her head in disgust. More often, we should consider Twisted Sister's head-banging anthem "We're Not Gonna Take It."
Am I condoning road rage? No. I'm merely suggesting we practice a bit of self-awareness and common sense, both when driving, as well as when we're being fed information by the media.
Let's face it. If you have one of these bumper stickers because you're experiencing an unusual amount of "mean people" on the road... try taking a quick glance in the mirror. The real problem may be much easier to solve than one might think.
