I write for a leading DVD magazine in London, and today I received this press release from the PR company that deals with Columbia Tri-Star:

London August 9th 2004

Coming exculsively to the UK on October 25th 2004, Columbia Tri-Star Home Entertainment brings you series 1-3 on DVD.

Seven years after the Golden Globe & Emmy winning series finished in the US, one of the best loved sitcoms of all time comes to DVD packed with stunning never before seen special features.

And the UK gets to see the DVD before anywhere else in the World!

"And the UK gets to see the DVD before anywhere else in the World!"

That's not entirely true, Australian release is scheduled for October 20.

According to the UK site for Columbia Tri-Star the official release date for Seinfeld 1 and Seinfeld 2 was actually 01/01/1900...

(go to that site and search for Seinfeld and you'll see what I mean...)

Just to let people know it is available from Tesco of all places for pre-order. No details at all like if extras or gifts will be the same, just the release date of October 25th

"DVD packed with stunning never before seen special features"

Hopefully 'packed' does mean that the DVDs will have the US extras, and the BBC Ceefax preview (page 547) does say it'll feature 'pilot episodes' (note the plural), which is line with the extras we know of on the US DVDs. Very Happy Very Happy

Still, this is truly great news!

I can confirm that the UK release has been pushed back to 1/11/04.

Special features will be identical to the R1 DVDs. However, there will be no gifts (they'll most likely be given away in competitions).

I'll have the check discs on my desk in 2-3 weeks time, so i'll know more then. woo-hoo for me! i rock!!

i'm in the uk and i'd really like to pre-order the box-set with the gifts, as advertised on among others.

but am i right in thinking that the disks will definitely not work on uk-dvd players? sorry if this sounds stupid but i don't even own a dvd player, but would happily buy one just for this.

also, is th uk price likely to be ridiculously more expensive than the us version?

if you buy a 'multiregion' dvd player, you can play discs from any part of the world. and they're not even that expensive. you can pick up a decent budget player from most big supermarkets or online stores like amazon.

as for the dvd price, i think you'll find the R2 set is cheaper (because there are no pressies).

hope that helps.

HMV have now put the DVDs up for pre-order. Interestingly though, is this:

This is better value than buying the other two sets seperately, but as there hasn't been any mention of an R2 box set, does this product actually exist?!

after looking at the region 2 (uk) version of the 3 disc set on and then looking at the region 1 (usa) version on it seems there is a difference in the running time.

REGION 1 = 15hours 42mins
REGION 2 = 14hours 39mins

this doesn't look good for us here in the uk with region 2 because it appears the orignial episodes with 1-2 minutes extra from the original NBC network version will not be included.

the only option is to wait an extra month for the region 1 set to come out with everything on it. does anyone have any further info on if this is correct.

domyates, the time difference is probably due to the conversion from NTSC to PAL. I'm going for the region 1 version.
