The forum now includes a new feature: optional authentication. This means that you can login to verify your identity. Note that this login authentication is currently optional -- in future, this could be made mandatory.

The system using an authentication service called TypeKey, which is widely used on the Internet. Below, you will see a "sign in" link at the top of the form to post a reply. Click this link. If you have a TypeKey account, then login and you will be returned to this page. If you you don't yet have a TypeKey account, you can create one after you click the "sign in" link below (takes about 30 seconds). TypeKey has a "keep me signed in for 2 weeks" setting that you can use, in order to avoid having to sign in every time you post.

There may be several ways that we can use this. I am going to research this further, and post updates at a later date. In the meantime, I strongly encourage all regular members to start using TypeKey when you post. That said, it is optional ... at least for now.

One of the reasons that I have added this feature is because many have complained about people posting under different names, and people that think it is fun to impersonate others. This authentication system will validate your identity and help quickly identify posers (among other potential benefits).

This has been setup only for replies currently. I may add this feature for new topics in future as well.

Your thoughts are appreicated.

Also note that using TypeKey for your replies going forward will not reset your post counts. As long as you use the same email address when you sign-up for TypeKey, your post will continue to be counted as usual.

When you post using your TypeKey login, the icon will appear beside your name. This helps identify who is real and who is fake (fake, fake, fake, fake...)

Is this about me?... Then I've lost interest.
But, seriously, I applaud the auth idea.
Now, could you do something similar about the illegal immigration issue?

On a more serious note, sorry to hear about your father..

I questioned the necessity of doing the typeset authentication, because nobody has bothered to be a fake-Bookman. Frankly, I'm a little offended.

Well, Stan, you're going to have to make it mandatory if you want me to do it, 'cause i refuse, in fact, everytime i'm asked, i'll answer the same way..."I CHOOSE NOT TO AUTHENTICATE!"

Jimbo, this site is not powered by phpbb, it is powered by Movable Type. I like to make it as easy as possible for people to participate, hence the reason that the authentication is optional.

It reminds me of when I worked with the riff-raff and had to clock-in. No big deal.

So what ever happened with this? Did Stan think this up when he was sleeping 20 minutes every 3 hours?
