I'm posting in this forum because it seems more active than the DVD forum, but anyway...

This is weirding me out.

I recently purchased seasons 3 and 4 from a FYE at a mall in Texarkana. They were marked down to $25 each. I assumed because the plastic was ripped and the packaging was kind of beat up, but I thought the discs would be fine. The discs are region 1, but I'm getting the exact same flickering issue that this reviewer describes for his "PAL" version DVD's. http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ID=6155

I know the problem is with the DVD's because I've tried them on other players and get the same thing. But everyone else's region 1 discs seem to be fine. I can't find any similar complaints on the net. Twilight Zone time.

I wonder what the hell happened. Even though I got them cheap, I still paid $50, and I doubt the store would exchange them. The flicker isn't that huge a deal but it's still annoying and the video quality is supposed to be great.

Well I'm not familiar with FYE (I had to Google it), so I don't know how significant they are as a merchant. If they are a major retailer in your area then they should not be selling used items, unless they've been labeled as "refurbished" or as being 'previously sold." It really all depends on the store's policy... whether or not they're selling new merchandise guaranteed against defects, or whether they're advertising the sale of used items "as is."

There's an old saying... "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

However, I think you'd be foolish not to at least try to return (or exchange) them. Some stores would much rather just give in to you to get you out of their hair, rather than putting up with you for giving them hell.

If all else fails, learning a huge lesson that can last a lifetime for only fifty bucks isn't all bad, in my opinion.

FYE took over the building where Tower Records used to be in my area.

I would try to return them and if they refuse, which I find hard to believe, then if you used Visa you may be able to contact them and dispute the charge. They'll send you a form and explain what happened.

I got into a discussion with a Motel in Mammoth because I wanted to cancel a reservation with a little less than a week to go but they still wanted to charge me for one day. When I talked to the Visa company they said if they accept Visa they have signed a contract that stipulates it's 48 hours for cancellation. Bottom line, I got my money back.

Explain the situation and stress you are looking for an exchange, not a refund. Season 3 is especially funny.
