I got seinfeld 1&2 for christmas this year, and let my brother hold it until I got back from school. Then my brother accidentaly threw out disc 2 when it was in a broken DVD player. I've talked to sony about it but they seem unrelenting about providing any kind of help even if I paid for it. Does anybody have any ideas about where i can buy Disc 2 of Seasons 1&2?

It is legal to make a personal copy of copyrighted material that you have purchased. However, it is not legal to circumvent the CSS encryption on DVDs, which would be required for you to digitally copy the DVD, thanks to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998. Neat how the copyright industry gets things like that into law, huh?

Personally, I circumvent away. I love having every episode that has come out on DVD ripped and sitting on my laptop so I can watch whatever I want whenever I want without having to carry a bunch of discs around with me.

SmartRipper allows you to rip in "movie" mode, which is, ripping defined video segments, such as episodes. It's a wonderful piece of software.

Your request actually motivated me to put together a guide for ripping TV shows up on my website. I thought I would have it up this weekend, but I got busy. It's almost done. When I get it up in another day or two, I'll post the link here.

Okay, my guide is now live:

I haven't totally proofed it, so if you spot any glaring errors, it would be great if you could let me know.

I hope this is helpful!

It'd be less trouble to carry 50 DVDs around in a backpack than to go through all that. Rolling Eyes

A man's familiarity with computers is inversely proportionate to his familiarity with female genitalia.

Maybe it's Jimmy's familiarity with computers that indicates to him what a waste of time ripping DVDs is for other pussyless nerds during their PlayStation breaks.

Not a problem. When I did some quick searching, I actually couldn't find any other guide online that explained this sort of thing, so I thought maybe it would be a nice contribution I could make. The information is out there, but it is scattered across many web pages, which I suppose is why this has the length that it does.

Don't be too intimidated by the length, though. The second half of the document is essentially extra things like how to add subtitles to your file and how to make things run quicker. I wrote it with a decent bit of detail, too, to hopefully make the guide easy for anyone to use. Which means, if you have some basic sense about computers, you should be able to fly through.

Good luck with it!
