SEINFELD BLOG

For me, Season 6 is the standout year of Seinfeld. The characters seemed to all be in top form and the plots seemed to get more intricate as well. Episodes like The Jimmy , The Label Maker , The Switch , The Doorman , The Kiss Hello , The Face Painter etc. I loved every episode in this season. I thought the show peaked this year and season 7 was a bit of a letdown. The only other season that rivalled season 6 was season 4 which had The Contest , The Virgin , The Cheever Letters , The Bubble Boy etc. Season 4 possibly had more famous episodes but also included some poorer efforts. Overall I thought Season 6 was when the writing was at its sharpest and they pushed the boundaries even further than they had in the past. Any one else have a view as to the best season?

That's a pretty good assessment, Mike, but I disagree slightly. I think Season 4 was the best. Don't forget classics like The Outing ("not that there's anything wrong with that") and The Shoes .

I agree that Season 4 had some classic episodes, The Visa was also a highlight. To me, season 6 was just consistently funny and season 4 had a couple of bad episodes, like The Movie . Looking back at it, I think the period between The Bubble Boy up to The Pick was the best ever run of episodes.

Well I think that the best episodes are `the opposite` and `the glasses`.

Pound for pound, as far as sitcom episodes go, The Outing is the best and funniest episode in the history of tv.

If there were such thing as the perfect 1/2 hour of comedic tv, this episode certainly comes as close as any thing else ever directed, written and acted...not there is anything wrong with that.

The beauty of Seinfeld is that it's almost impossible to pick "the best" season -- any season you look at you tend to think is the best, until you look at another one

But I do think that the pilot and Season 1 were probably the weakest since they still hadn't really completely figured out what they were doing yet ... IMO they started to take off with Season 2 and just got better after that.

If I absolutely had to pick one I think it would be Season 5, because of eps like these just to pick a few -- all classics:

- The Cigar Store Indian
- The Conversion
- The Marine Biologist
- The Hamptons

Throughout to season where George works for the Yankees...thats the best time period.

Season 4 for me was the best.

Through my Greatest Episode contest, I find that it was hardest to pick for seasons 5 and 7. I coulod never narrow it down to 1 season.

When I really think about it, don't even count what I said back there, I don't know if I could ever narrow it down to just one season.

Hey! Come to think of it, I think I see a new contest coming on, Greatest Season Contest.... could be fun. Maybe I'll get that goin after I finish with the Greatest Episode one.

I agree 4 and 6 were amazing. Both seasons had great episodes. My favorite though was in Season 7 "The Soup Nazi"

If i had to put the seasons in order from favorite to least favorite i would pick..

I'd have to go with Season 5, though that doesn't mean at all other seasons are bad. There are some great seasons, I just think Season 5 overall was the funniest.

season 5 is GOLD.. Its gold baby..
then comes season 4,
then season 7
and then season 6

Season 5 was just Classic. I cant even think of any episodes i disliked. Maybe one or two tops.

Not only was Season 5 a great Season, but it was huge for the cast. Ratings were #1 that year and they got lots of awards including Outstanding Comedy Series. I personally thought every character was there best that year too. Especially Kramer and George. Both characters were great in episodes like "The Marine Biologist", "The Opposite", "The Hamptons", "The Stall" just to name a few.
