As you may have noticed, the server has been having probelms lately, with the site going down multiple times in the past few days.

I have made a few changes, including blocking a bot who may have been executing a denial-of-service attack on the server. I hope these things will fix the problems, but I am not sure.

Your feedback would be very helpful. Over the next few days, please let me know if things are fast, slow, and if the site goes down, etc. If you notice the site goes down, please note the time, and report it here when the site comes back up. Any deatils would be helpful, such as what activities are slow (posting a new topic, posting a reply, viewing a page, etc.)

Thanks for your help,

Stan

OK, I'm back to being unable to access multiple page threads. This time at home.

I had that problem again a few days ago, but it went away.

I've tried four times in the last six minutes to post a message on the "READ THIS POST FIRST" thread, and I keep getting an "Interal Server Error" message. Which wouldn't bother me if my post would record anyway, which of course, it doesn't.

I keep getting an "Internal Server Error" message when I try to get onto "The Bookstore" thread on the Episodes forum. It's happened three times in the last five minutes.

"Cannot Find Server" error for the past two-plus hours. And before that, the site was very slow (and I have a cable ISP).

OK, I'm going to blast off, now that I have been able to wedge my way into this site after about six tries.

Stan, there are serious issues, especially lately. I know you said you were migrating to a new server. What is this like the third time in the last year? The new server is not the answer. About 1 out of every three times I try to access this site, it will not load and I finally get a time out message. Too, if you get to the main page, getting anywhere else can be problematic, at best. Internal server errors, unfound page messages, S L O W loading pages, etc., etc.

If I were a newbie here, I wouldn't think much of the site for these reasons and likely not come back. As a "veteran", I am not threatening to take my ball and go home, BUT, if these problems persist, I will be inclined to come here less,..and less,.......and less. There is NOTHING more aggravating than to go to a site and get "timed out". I have little patience for that, and I think others are of a like mind in this respect.

I've gotten several server errors in just the last ten minutes, trying to get onto various threads on this page and on earlier pages. And the site has been very slow this afternoon.

This is the most public yet of my many humiliations. Sad

What exactly is slow? posting new topics? posting replies? Viewing threads? Viewing multi-page threads (page 2 and later)?

I have a lot more flexibility with this server, and I want to optimize things as much as possible.

Stan, for me at least, it's everything. Loading the site, opening pages, posting. Just slow. Tell me it's you and not me but, as usual, it's probably damn right it's me! Smile

For instance, it took 52 seconds for that last post to "post".

Are there bugs still being worked out?

The site is very slow between other pages and the General forum index page.

A post I made yesterday, well AFTER Stan gave the all-clear signal, got lost. I had to re-post last night.

The rines were crossed yesterday on the two recent "Episode Question" threads. I kept trying to get onto the threrad begun by high five, and I kept getting the other one. In addition, the index show there were 8 replies, and Jimmy was the last poster. Now there are only 7 replies, and FDR is last. What happened to Jimmy's post? And why, if everything's fixed?

And where's that other "Episode Question" thread, the one with only one reply (from Cousin Jeffrey)? (I don't remember the question.) It was right there near the top last night.

I may have figured out the problem with slow replies on the server. Just testing my theory now...

Okay that last reply took 11 seconds -- better, but still way to long. I try to put my theory to the test now....
