This Seinfeld sound bite has been removed due to a DMCA request from the copyright owners of Seinfeld.

(Kramer lights a cigar with a sparkler.)
KRAMER: Come on, man. You need to lighten up. You know, a feeling like this only happens once a year.

(He tosses the sparkler into the back seat of Jerry's car where it lands on the Puerto Rican flag.)
KRAMER: Yeah, it's like this every day in Puerto Rico.
(Lamar starts to laugh as he sees the smoke rise.)
KRAMER: See, now you're getting the spirit of it, huh?
(Kramer smells the smoke, turns, and sees the fire.)

KRAMER: Ooh! !Dios mio!
(He grabs the flag, throws it onto the sidewalk and stops on it.)
MAN: Hey! There's a guy burning the Puerto Rican flag!
BOB: Who! Who is burning the flag?!
KRAMER: Oh, no.
BOB: Him?!
CEDRIC: That's not very nice.
KRAMER: It was an accident.
BOB: Do you know what day this is? Because I know what day this is, they know what day this is, so I was wondering if you know what day this is!
CEDRIC: Because it's Puerto Rican day.
BOB: Maybe we should stomp you like you stomp the flag! What do you think of that?
KRAMER: Now look, I just have one thing to say to you boys... Ma-maaahhhh!!!

(Kramer runs off screaming. The others give chase.)

Having traveled abroad I encountered a constant theme toward the Americans... that they are an arrogant people. A people that are mostly inconsiderate and disrespectful of other cultures. I can't help but entertain the idea if the "flag burning" episode had taken place on Memorial Day, and a Spanish cast had degraded the American Flag. Wouldn't have had the same comical effect would it? But Seinfield proved what we, as a Nation already know, that we are plagued with hypocracy and bigotry. Way to go Jerry, you are a true American.

The whole idea of the show is how things get fowled up and how the simple things get major misunderstandings. Its a show. Its not taken as an educational tool nor should someone use it other than as humor. You can pretty much take anything in this world and see it as you want to see it.I could see a flag burning as being disrespectful but you've missed the point its the events leading up to it.Also, if it was purely racial I don't think that they would have shown Puerto Rican day or any of the Puerto Rican Americans being upset.

I have never burned a flag. The day that flag burning becomes illegal, I will burn a flag in protest.

actually, the official way to get rid of a flag when it is too old is to burn it. just a little fact.

but as to what carlos said, americans may be arrogant, but not because of this. it's just a show. you know, nazi's can be pretty funny, why can't a flag burning be funny?

I'm Puerto Rican, and I think the following.

A flag is a national simbol. It doesn't matters where it was made or with wich materials it was made, its a simbol, and we must respect it. No matter if it is a Puerto Rico, United States, England, China flag, it is a simbol and we must respect it.

I don't see the joke here . . .

I feel proud to be Puerto Rican and American. Must have that in mind, The Puerto Ricans are proud to be americans as someone natural from United States. I'll defend both the United States and Puerto Rican country - state and it's respective flag.

NBC is a shit, and the clown that thought the idea of burn a Puerto Rican flag was funny, doesn't deserve the right to live ¬¬

As a Puerto Rican myself I agree with everything Jeffrey says. It's wrong to burn a flag of another country and even worse to criticize those that were indignant. They have every right to be mad and defend their national honor. If it was the American flag, would you have stayed still and taken it? No, especially if it would've been on a foreign show.

Taken out of context, burning a flag is disrespectful and offensive, but there is nothing politically correct about the series as a whole (for example, I remember an episode where Jerry and George ride in a limo with neo-nazis). Maybe the issue is that, culturally, national symbols are more beloved by Latinos than Americans, and certainly more than Americans who whatch Seinfeld. This is simply a culture clash. I don't beleive burning an American flag in the same context of the episode would be offensive to American Seinfeld fans. Not at all.

..and to the guy who said burning the PR flag flag "is so gay", maybe he should look into his own intolerance. As far as i'm concerned that guy can take his Puerto Rican flag and shove it up his ass.

burnin the P.R. flag was not funny at all it was rude and hurtful to the puerto rican community mad latinos seem as if they were at a lower level then whites...when we are all equal was very rude and cruel ...burning any flag is horrible even if it is on a tv show ...many people would be very bothered if it was their flag burning on national tv...u should try to be considerate of your viewers and try not to be so rude .

I find it an act of stupidity in the productors part and of pure ignorance with the actor's actions. Do you really think that in order to bring your ratings up or bring a couple of laughs you have to belittle a country by stomping on their flag. You wonder why United States is so messed up?

Well looks like the Twisted Evil has shown his true colors after all IN REAL LIFE!
Kramer was just calling African Americans who heckled him, in the audience of the LAFF FACTORY niggers, and talking about them being Lynched and everything! Can you believe it? Of course you can. What is the first thing most white people do when they get angry? Return to their true roots and get racial! Everytime!!!

Go check out the news! Kramer revealed his true colors. Are you surprised that he felt that way, and uses the N-word? Not I!

I am Puerto Rican - lived in the Island all my life with close family living in the US. Seeing my flag burned, spitted, trashed or whatever has never insulted nor offended me. Why? Because things need to be taken from where or who they come from. This is an ignorant act and ignorants deserve no part of my attention ever. We need to get rid the inferiority complex and the sense of "minority" we have been made into believing. Groups become minorites immediately the moment they themselves believe they are and distant or separte themselves from the rest of the World like so many blacks, Puerto Ricans, Islamics, Jews, etc. have done for years, constantly triggering racism themselves. There are no minorities, only diversities and as long as we keep seeing diversity as something that alienates anyone from a group, humanity will continue to subdivide into many more minorities struggling to conquer over others. Haven´t we had this conversation before?

Flag burning? Who cares about flag burning? When they start to burn books, then we´re in trouble.
