Remember when George and Susan start making out in Tom's Restaurant (it will always be Tom's, not Monk's, to me, because I ate breakfast there at least five times a week my freshman year; $1.08 for two eggs, hash browns and toast. $2.16 if you add bacon) in an attempt to show Jerry and his girlfriend how annoying their shows of public affection are? (This is the girlfriend to whom Jerry asks, "Do I know you?" when he has to choose between her or soup).
For George that was just an act, a ruse, a pretense. In other words, it was phony. JUST LIKE JERRY!
