gs: Jane Leeves (Marla) Ilana Levine (Joyce) Rachel Sweet (Shelly) Andrea Parker (Nurse) Estelle Harris (Estelle Constanza)

George's mother throws her back out when she falls down after catching him doing "you know." When George says he'll never do it again, Jerry challenges him to a contest of self-denial, when he accepts, Elaine and Kramer want in on the action, or rather the lack of it.

b: 18-Nov-92 pc: 411 w: Larry David d: Tom Cherones

NOTE: Thanks to this episode, the series won the Emmy for best Comedy, Writing and Supporting Actor (Michael Richards). The episode was based in a real life experience of writer Larry David.
Tom Cherones won the Director's Guild of America Award for this episode. This episode was based on a real contest that Larry David participated in.
TV Guide named this episode, specifically the moment where Kramer says he's out, as the third funniest moment in TV history.

I can remember watching this episode and laughing during the commercials - it one one half hour of continued laughing. You just don't find writing like that very often.

But are you still master of your domain?
I'm queen of the castle
lord of the manor.

Undoubtedly, the best episode in all of comedy tv history. Seinfeld was really a ground breaking show and shows like this are an example of it. Hard for me to say that any single episode was the greatest, but if i had to, it would be this one

Kramer: Do you hear what you are saying? This is a beautiful woman walking around naked and you want to tell her to stop? This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I wish to record this moment.

It's Tuesday 24th February 2004, 22:16 on a chill London eve.

I have just watched The Contest for the first time.

Oh.

My.

God.

Larry David IS a genius. Just utterly amazing writing and performances.

I can't believe what I just saw!!!!

Masterpiece. I am dust at Larry's feet.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Didn't we find out in the final episode that George had in fact cheated in the contest, thus meaning Jerry should have won.

By the way, I'm master of my domain.

We get a hint about who won or lost in "The Contest" episode itself.

Remember the last scene when Elaine is sleeping peacefully, Kramer is sleeping peacefully with the naked lady in the other building, Marla the virgin is sleeping with John Kennedy Junior, and George is also sleeping peacefully. Only Jerry couldn't sleep.

That last scene clearly shows that George "caved" and hence peaceful sleep.

Reet, the show was based on Larry Davids "expierience", but i wonder.... if George is based on Larry and George cheated on the contest, does that mean that Larry did???? Confused
