Toxic wedding invitations

Wife just brought up an excellent point about the toxic wedding invitations that I never thought about.

Susan's parents were extremely wealthy, wouldn't they have been paying for the wedding? And if so, why would George have picked out the cheapest invitations?

Was it possible her parents didn't like him to the point where they weren't going to pay for the wedding?

Or, was George so uninterested in the wedding that he picked the ugliest ones out of spite?

I think yes on both questions. Susan's parents never acted like they liked George or his parents. He had a hand in burning down the cabin (yes I know Kramer did it) which helped out Susan's dad, and acted strangely to them with a marble rye hanging from a fishing pole. Her parents probably refused to pay for the wedding.

George was very uninterested in the wedding, more interested in getting out of it. He was also very cheep, so he flips to the cheapest invitations there are.
