From season 1, episode 2, "The Stakeout"

Jerry attends a birthday with Elaine and meets a woman that he is attracted to and they start a conversation. They are interrupted and the woman leaves before Jerry can speak with her again.
The only thing he did find out about her was where she works, and he decides to stake out the lobby so he can meet her again.

I just wanted to add that the name of Vanessa's firm was "Sagman, Bennett, Robbins, Oppenheim, and Taft". Jerry memorizes it immdediately for future reference. I've done things like that...haven't we all?
