Video Errors

I know I have seen people mentioning on here about video errors, for instance, I know that there is at least one problem part on the high quality episode of "The Merv Griffin Show." At any rate, I saw on another topic that these can be fixed with VirtualDub. Could someone explain this process? How can I fix these errors?

The Merv Griffin show problem is very easy to fix. Just use any video editor (I use Video Edit Magic). There is an audio glitch at approximately 0:09:53.00 that causes playback to stop(timeline seems to vary, depending on your editor). In any case, it's exactly at the point where Jerry is rummaging through the medicine cabinet, going "will not make you drowsy", ..."MAY make you drowsy...". The glitch is just before that last word "drowsy". I cut off exactly half a second of video+audio at that point, wrote back as a new DivX, and it works perfectly!

I am not aware of any other video problems related to playback. There are some issues on some of the avi's related to converting to MPEG2, but I've explained those elesewhere.

I use quicktime. Yay apple. Quicktime will also give you stats about the file, which can be helpful in diagnosing problems.

So with video edit magic how do you actually cut out the 1/2 second?

Hey, I'm all for open-source software and VideoLan looks like a pretty good player.

The fact is, though, that there IS a genuine problem with the Merv Griffin episode, it's just that VideoLan and perhaps some other players are able to tolerate it. Most players, including Windows Media Player, get stuck halfway through this episode, and I also had problems with this episode when converting to MPEG to create a video DVD. So I'm just pointing how to fix it.

George - this is a basic editing function that can be done with Video Edit Magic or with any other video editor - check out the help for whatever editor you're using. Smile
