Was the "George" character based on anyone real?

I was just curious and thinking if George was based on a real person. I know Kramer was a neighbor of Larry David and the Elaine character was based on Jerry's wife. Which leads me to ask if anyone knows anything about George? Was he also a friend of Jerry's like on the show? OR a friend of Larry's? Or was he just completely made up to add to the comedy of the show?

George was actually based ON Larry David. They are so much alike it's scary. Check out some episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm. |

i particularly like it in 'the car salesman' when people keep talking about what a complete loser george costanza was and larry gets all indignant and defensive. |

George was a composite of Larry David and Mike Costanza, who was a school friend of Jerry's. If you ever see a photo of Mike Costanza it's quite eerie how much Jason Alexander looks like him. |

Don't forget, George also has a little Ralph Cramdon and Woody Allen in him.
