What's the actual job of a "Stand-In"

Because I don't see the point of a stand in, like kramer and mickey were doing, my question is: why is it needed in a regular show?

Stand-ins are substitutes for an actor while the lights and camera are adjusted. |

Those pretentious actors with their complicated shoes can't spare an extra 2 minutes to stand there while they adjust the lighting. It might conflict with their deicate genius. |

The funny thing to me about that episode is that the set is full of Little People. I mean honestly do you require THAT many stand-ins for kids on one show? Weird? |
