How It Came About:
Norton Sweetzer: How did you meet up with Larry David?
Robert Weide: In the early 80's, I was Director of Development for Rollins & Joffe, a production and management company best known for producing Woody Allen's movies. A script came across my desk called Prognosis Negative which was one of the funniest scripts I ever read.
What Is It About:
Prognosis Negative is about a single guy who is unable to commit to a relationship. He finds out an ex-girlfriend has six months to live and decides its perfect...he can commit without worrying about the long term consequences. (From an interview with Terri Gross on NPR)
Where Was It Mentioned:
- Three days later, dog tearing up Jerry’s apartment
- George, Elaine, Jerry supposed to see movie "Prognosis Negative"; Kramer will watch dog
When Elaine walks in the door after the guy's surgery, she says "prognosis negative".
Why Wasn't It Made:
"Larry David, creator and exec producer of "Seinfeld" the past six years, has inked a deal with Castle Rock Entertainment to write and direct his own untitled feature comedy, the company confirmed Monday.
David already has completed a script, but refuses to give out details of the project or its plot. However, Castle Rock already has circulated it to some stars, including Michael Keaton and Alec Baldwin.
Laurie Lennard is set to produce. Castle Rock insiders said the pic likely would go before cameras in the spring.
The project would mark David's first feature as a director. As a scribe, he has been developing a script called "Prognosis Negative" for Castle Rock the past two years".
Larry David made a deal and started to rewrite the script since some of the humor was probably a bit dated being the 80’s. The Script wasn't produced because Sour Grapes which is the above film being discussed failed at the Box Office and Castle Rock didn't want to risk again.
Being a huge fan of Larry David does anyone know where I can locate it?
