Your Finale

Six years later and I'm still mad about the final episode. Seems to me, they owed more to the fans. I mean I think they could have given us some sense of closure, tie up some loose ends, and let us know that these characters are gonna be allright. And if you're not gonna do any of those things, MAKE IT FUNNY! But it wasn't that funny, either. Anyway, I'm working on a script for my shot at the finale, how I would have ended it. Those of you that were dissatisfied with the finale, I was looking for your opinion on how you thought the show should have ended. What would your finale be like?

It may not have been the funniest episode, but I think it was okay.

The only thing I wouldn't change is the last conversation, cause it was the shows first too.

But I think your right about closure, we should know what happens after that. The end should have cut to Jerry and George in the Monk's, they would talk about whatever had ended up happening with the law, and then finish with the button conversation.

Just to play devils advocate, I didn't find the finale that bad...well at least not as bad as some people make it out to be. I liked how we got to see lots of the characters again. I think it would be hard to make a finale that satisfies everyone after such a great run, or could they of...I don't know, I'm not a writer.
Anyways, I guess I'll just stay away from this thread and leave it for people who were dissatisfied.

I mean sure I'm not funny anymore. But there's more to life than shallow, fairly obvious observations.

I may have come off sounding like I thought it was bad, but I thought it was ok. It wasn't genious, but it wasn't death. I also liked getting to see all the characters again.

No matter what, Seinfeld is still the single greatest show ever, so I can't put it down.

I disagree. The finale was a great ending to the Seinfeld series. And it did wrap up and gave closure. Don't you see, when they are in the jail cell together and they start talkin about the button on Georges shirt, it's not just a random thing, it meant something. This is saying that the whole Seinfeld universe just ended and it just restarts again. It just keeps on going and going until it hits the end, where you get back right where you started. Anyway that's whtI got out of it. As well as with the whole court thing, I thought it was kind of clever. Laughing Laughing Smile

If the purpose of the finale was to say that the show had come full circle, then I personally would have liked to see Jerry and Elaine get back together. For nine years they've been "running around out there looking
for something that's not even there," and have nothing to show for it. They finally realize how special they're relationship is and get back together, without it being too cheesy. Call me a romantic, but that's what I would liked to have seen happen.

Ah, but the show didn't start with them as a couple, so it would be going more then full circle to reunite Jerry and Elaine. I thought the Finale was GREAT, though bringing back a few other characters (Mohel, Silvio, etc.) would have been fun. The part near the end where Jerry says, to the effect, "You know that second button is in the wrong place. The second button makes or breaks the shirt" and George says, to the effect, "Haven't we had this disussion before?" would have been the place to JUST END IT (like not double-dipping a chip). To go on with the part of them in jail as the epilogue was, I thought, lame.

Like Mr. Chiles mentions, they didn't start as a couple, so why would they end as one. Besides, the best way to ruin a good relationship, movie or COMEDY SHOW is to start getting too "serious". If Elaine wasn't such a typical over-emotional female who wanted it all, they would have had THIS and THAT...but of course she couldn't stop there, she had to go for THE OTHER.

If Jerry and Elaine got back together, that would be Friends-ish. I'm not a big fan of Friends but I've seen some eps, and the show gets too into relationships and gets away from being funny. That is why Seinfeld was and is seperated from all sitcoms, it was always funny, even when Susan died, it was all one masterfully crafted joke.

Good call Vegtable, good call! You hit it dead on, and I applaud you for it. And Scotty, may I ask you if you were going to have the ending differant, what would it be? Ya... Vegtable WAS right, Seinfeld is not the type of show to get all sappy up on our asses , and that is what makes it better than the rest. So Scotty, if I may, before you go thinking of an alternate ending, watch a couple episodes and get a better understanding of the characters mentalities and personality traites. We wouldn't want to see you pull a "happily ever after" on us. Laughing Rolling Eyes Smile

I agree with the first posts in that the finale is one of my least favorite episodes of all. I think they just wanted a script that was able to bring together all of the characters and episodes of all the nine seasons, however I don't think it was done very well.

I think it should have ended like every other Seinfeld episode - with Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer sitting in the coffee shop just talking about some random thing. It should have reassured the viewers that the four of them would be continuing with their adventures indefinitely, even though the show ended.

just a note:
isn't there such thing as a seperate prison for man and woman?
shouldn't elaine be in an another cel?

i think we should be glad that jerry and elaine aren't together!! i think that would be the greatest and worst mistake ever, that would kill Seinfeld!
jerry and elaine don't belong together (not meant to be): they broke up because it didn't work. besides that, they also tried to get back together, and that didn't work either...

so why an ending that makes no sense?!

i agree with bob sakamano (the second post): the ending should be at the Monks
--> the fabulous 4 discussing the 1 year period in jail (with some flashbacks: where george tries to escape from prison with his Jimmy-shoes; elaine dating with handsome guards; jerry dreaming he's superman and dating lois lane; kramer finally founding Kramerica Industries and making money), and ending with the second button....

the second button discussion starts the whole sitcom again! there is no ending, 'cause they didn't learn anything about how society works. so in about 10 years, they would be back in jail.... (yada yada yada/ etc.)

i think that's what jerry and larry david (+ other writers) had in mind....

I Thought it was great. I liked all the characters coming back. I would have loved it if they would have introduced for the first time Bob Saccamano and Lomez and maybe a few of the unseen characters but overall it was pretty good. They didn't do anything to crazy or off the norm. I think they were bound for some kind of trouble the way they were going.

If they got together in the final episode, if wouldn't ruin the show. It's not like we would watch them have go through a sappy relationship for years. It was the last episode! How is that hurting anybody? I'm almost done with my script, and I'll post it and let you all see how damn good it is. And I've seen every episode, so screw you, Buck!

I agree with Buck, Vegetable, etc... Getting them together would have been soooooo lame, talk about a lack of imagination...I suppose it should have ended with a harp playing while he carries her off into the sunset, gimme a break.
And, Scottie, usually, the louder someone blows their own horn, the less they have to blow about. If the script is really that "damn good" let other people praise it, but doing it yourself is rather cheesy. (I noticed you took out the word "damn" in your second version of the same post...Seems you don't even have confidence in your writing even when it comes to a forum post).
Thank God they didn't get back together, that would have SUCKED!!!

I thought the Finale was OK, not favorite episode ever...I didn't want them to go to jail though.

I think it coulda been a three part finale:

1. Clip Show 2.The Show

3. After they get outta jail in a year, have a "where are they now" episode with all the people they came in contact with over the years (the people in part 2 of the finale).

Soup Nazi, Babu, Putty, Man Hands (that could be a good one Wink ), Darren (Kramerica), Peterman in the jungle, Kruger at a mental hospital goin' K-ooger!!, GET MY DRIFT?
